How Effective Laser Hair Removal

Posted on 11 October 2007

The current long pulse lasers are effective in causing short to long term delay in hair growth. Repeat treatments are necessary to capture all hairs during their growing phase and the accumulation of injury to the hair bulb is also important for long term or "permanent" results. After two treatments on the bikini line, for example, an average of 10% regrowth is seen after three-8 months. For the top lip area, after three treatments, about a 10% regrowth is noted after three-12 months.

It is also important to note that the regrowing hair is often softer, smaller and more sparse.

Some people will achieve better than expected results, while in a small number of individuals the results may be less than satisfactory or may not work.

There are many factors that may influence the response to laser e.g. hair colour, size of hair, ethnicity, hormonal influences, area treated and age.
