The Jessners peel is a deeper acting peel then the AHA’s and thus one sees more rapid results. Jessners is made up of lactic acid, salicylic acid and resorcinol. All are peeling agents and are especially useful for acne, more severe sun damage and some pigmentation. People allergic to aspirin are not suitable because it contains salicylic acid. Some Asian and darker skin may also not be suitable, as there could be a greater chance of creating temporary pigmentation after peeling.
There is more redness and visible peeling or flaking of the skin afterwards than AHA, some people may need to take a few days of work if peeling is noticeable. Thus it may not be suitable as a ‘lunch hour’ procedure. This peel can be repeated depending on the outcome.
A recent innovation to minimise the irritation and allow many to continue working after the peel is the ‘oxygen emulsion’ therapy. Our initial experience with this product has been promising.
