Will CO2 Lasers results last ?

Posted on 14 October 2007

Will the results last?
In most people the results of the laser treatment can be expected to last for some years. If necessary, the treatment can be repeated in the future.

The doctor will discuss with you ways of maintaining your new skin. Advice on some factors in lifestyle and skin caree products are areas that simple changes may ensure prevention of premature aging and a more radiant complexion.

Although the results are not as dramatic as the CO2, the same areas can be retreated after a short period of time.

With both lasers, the treated area will be swollen and will appear scabby and weepy. We recommend the application of Vaseline, Vitamin E oil or Calendula cream three or more times a day, as the aim is not to let the treated area dry out. It is very important to keep the skin moist. This way the scabs will remain soft and not form a dry crust. The new skin will appear pink or red and can be covered by make-up once the skin is clear of scabs, although it is always best to avoid make-up for as long as possible and just apply a perfume free moisturiser. Depending on the individual, fading can vary from 2 weeks to 12 months.

It is important during the recovery phase to keep in contact with the treating doctor and to return for the follow-up appointments. This ensures the healing is monitored and managed appropriately. More importantly, it will give you much needed reassurance during a period when most patients can find themselves isolated and anxious about their progress.
